What Is a Designated Safeguarding Lead?

A Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) is the named senior member of staff responsible for safeguarding and child protection in a school or educational setting. How Often Should DSLs Refresh Their Training?

Best practice guidance recommends that DSLs renew their Level 3 training every two years. This is important because legislation, guidance, and the safeguarding landscape change regularly, and a DSL who trained three or four years ago may not be current with the latest UAE requirements or emerging risks such as online safety and AI-related concerns.
